Help · Getting your addresses in
I just signed up. How do I get my addresses in and print something?
Confirm your email (adding, importing, inviting and printing unlock when you do), then get addresses into your book: type one, import a spreadsheet or contacts file, paste a list, or send a link that asks people for their address. Open the Print tab, choose envelopes or labels, select recipients, and download the PDF.
Plan: Free for one address book of up to 50 addresses. Every label format and envelope printing are free; Penmark Pro adds unlimited addresses, more books, sharing, and photo and document import.
Confirm your email
Penmark sends a confirmation link when you sign up with email and password. Until you follow it, you can look around but cannot add, import, invite or print; the banner says so and offers Resend email and I've verified. Accounts created with Google or Apple sign-in arrive confirmed.
Your book is already there
Every account starts with one address book, "My Address Book" (rename it from the book page). On the Addresses tab, + Add address opens the form and Import a list opens Smart Import. On an empty Print tab the same two actions appear with Request addresses and Try a sample print.
Four ways to get addresses in
- Type them. Name, street, and the city line; start a new line in the street for an apartment or suite; put a country on its own line for international mail. A Label ("Home", "Cabin") and notes are optional.
- Import a spreadsheet or contacts file. "Excel or CSV" reads columns such as name, street, city, state, zip; "Phone contacts (.vcf)" reads a contacts export from iOS, Google or Outlook. Both are free.
- Paste a list. "Paste text" reads names and addresses out of an email, a note or a document; the free plan includes 5 scans a day, and the count resets daily. Penmark Pro also reads Word documents, PDFs and photos, including a photo taken on your phone through a QR code.
- Ask people. "Request addresses" makes a private link to text or email; recipients type their own address with no account, and you review each response before it enters the book.
Every import shows a review step before anything is saved, and an address already in the book is updated rather than duplicated.
Try before you add
Try a sample print on the empty Print tab runs the whole preview, style and PDF workflow on a fictional recipient (The Sample Family, 123 Example Street, Sampleton, OR 97000). Nothing is saved to your book.
On a phone or tablet
The address book, every import (the camera included), address requests and the Print tab work in a phone or tablet browser. Printing label sheets from a tablet worked in our testing: a mailing-label PDF printed from Safari on an iPad through AirPrint to an HP OfficeJet Pro 8030-series printer came out at exactly the sheet's size, laid over a real Avery 8160 sheet; iPadOS identified the PDF as Letter and no scaling adjustment was needed. Other printers and print apps can behave differently, so check the first sheet against your labels. Envelopes from the same iPad worked in our testing once the printer itself was set to the envelope size, which made AirPrint offer that paper size; AirPrint offered only the sizes the printer advertised, so set the envelope size on the printer first and reopen the print dialog, and use a computer for a size your printer does not advertise. See printing on envelopes.
Common questions
What if I did not get the confirmation email?
Check the spam or promotions folder, then use Resend email in the banner. The link opens on usepenmark.com and signs you in.
Can I use Penmark without an account?
The free label maker at /label-maker/ prints one sheet of Avery address labels from a pasted list with no account, and keeps nothing. Everything else lives in an account.
Is there a free trial of Pro?
Penmark does not have a time-limited trial. You can use the Free plan for as long as you like: one book of up to 50 addresses with full label and envelope printing. Pro is $1.99 a month or $15 a year, and you can cancel at any time.
